Ramsomware and the Cryptowall Virus – What You Need to Know

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock for the last several years, you’ve heard about, or maybe even been a victim of one of the worst viruses we’ve ever seen.

We keep waiting for the the big players in the security world to come up with a solution but it seems like the bad guys keep coming up with new
ways to beat us.

We let our clients know that it’s very easy to know if you’ve been infected by the Cryptowall virus, most if not all of your data has been encrypted and all you’re left with is a message on the screen demanding a ransom. In Bitcoin, no less. I’m sure you’ve probably heard the term Bitcoin before but I would be willing to bet you have no clue on how to deal with someone that wants to be paid in Bitcoin.

Many of our clients have been affected by this nasty virus, a few of them have had to deal with it more than once. Without proper backups, it could literally shut down a business.

No matter how many times we ask clients not to save important files on their computers without a rock solid backup, more than one if possible, and hopefully offsite or on the Cloud, we still get frantic calls with explanations that they didn’t think it would happen to them.

For a great explanation on how you can protect yourself from these attacks, please take a look at this article by Smart IT Professional Magazine –
